A Schedule aluminium pipe is a standardized tube whose wall thickness is defined by a Schedule rating.

This classification standardizes pipe strength based on wall thickness rather than only the outside diameter. It directly impacts strength, rigidity, and the pipe’s ability to withstand mechanical stress.

Schedule aluminium pipes are sometimes preferred over Schedule steel pipes in specific applications where lightweight properties and corrosion resistance are essential.

The term Schedule comes from North American standards used to classify pipes based on wall thickness.

At the same nominal diameter:

  • the higher the Schedule number, the thicker the wall
  • the higher the mechanical strength and pressure resistance

The most common schedules are:

  • Schedule 40
  • Schedule 80

This system makes it easier to select the right pipe based on project requirements.

The main difference between Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 is wall thickness.

  • Schedule 40
    o    Standard wall thickness
o    Good balance between weight, strength, and cost
o    Used for general and light structural applications
  • Schedule 80
    o    Thicker wall
o    Higher resistance to pressure and mechanical stress
o    Used in more demanding environments

At the same diameter, Schedule 80 pipe is heavier and more robust than Schedule 40.

At Acier Groupe David, Schedule aluminium pipes are available with the following specifications:

  • Standard length: 20 feet
  • Diameters: from 1/8’’ to 48’’
  • Wall thickness and outside diameters: according to Schedule standards (see chart page 24)
  • Color: silver aluminium finish

Custom cuts can also be made based on project requirements.

6061-T6 aluminium alloy is one of the most widely used alloys in industrial, mechanical, and structural applications.

It belongs to the aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloy family, known for its excellent balance of strength, lightweight properties, and corrosion resistance.

The “T6” designation indicates that the aluminium has undergone heat treatment (solution heat-treated and artificially aged), which increases its hardness and strength.

Key characteristics of 6061-T6 include:

  • Excellent strength for an aluminium material
  • Very good corrosion resistance, even in outdoor environments
  • Good weldability and machinability
  • Lightweight compared to steel
  • High versatility (structural, mechanical, transport applications, etc.)

Schedule aluminium pipes are used in several industries, including:

  • Light structural applications
  • Industrial manufacturing
  • Transportation and trailers
  • Marine applications
  • Mechanical equipment
  • Architectural projects
  • Systems requiring lightweight and corrosion-resistant materials

They are especially valued for their low weight and oxidation resistance.

Selecting the right pipe depends on several factors:

  • Application type
    o    Structural, mechanical, fabrication, transport
  • Required Schedule
o    Schedule 40 for standard uses
o    Schedule 80 for more demanding applications
  • Diameter and dimensions
    o     Based on project requirements
  • Alloy and standard
o    6061-T6 aluminium for general strength and performance
  • Operating environment
o     Indoor, outdoor, or corrosive environments

Our team can help you select the best configuration for your project.

Pricing varies depending on several factors, including:

  • Schedule (40 or 80)
  • Diameter and wall thickness
  • Length (standard or custom cut)
  • Order quantity
  • Aluminium market conditions

For accurate pricing, we recommend requesting a quotation.
